Economy Hiring and Firing Difficulties

Many graduates fear not being able to find a job when they graduate, but keeping a job is just as hard. Mrs. Deborah Campbell was a woman clearly affected by the impacts on the recession and our current economy situation. Mrs. Campbell, an Ole Miss graduate, had worked for a non profit organization that fuctioined primarily from donations . She was employed for 10 years and was laid off last year due to the company having to cut back, because donations were down. They laid off hundreds of people. After 1 year and 2 months of job searching, Mrs. Campbell just recently found a job.

A College Degree Not Worth What It Used To Be

Many people attend college each year in hopes to better themselves with education and to obtain a degree to help them get a good job, great pay, benefits, and other assets so that they may live comfortable. A degree used to be a ladder to help achieve those dreams. Is it now worth the same with the economy in it's terrible downfall? For Chris Boothe, a 2009 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, a degree has not been that ladder for him to achieve those goals, well not just yet. Boothe has been searching for a job since he graduated and has had no luck. Many jobs willing to pay just above minimum wage even with a degree, and many companies not hiring. " I thought a degree would be a sure ticket to getting a job with great benefits, but it isn't that easy," said Boothe. Boothe just recently found a job in Jackson,MS after nearly 2 years of searching.
